About YWAHS
Yoowinna Wurnalung Aboriginal Healing Service (YWAHS) is a Specialist Aboriginal Family Violence Service, which is an independent Not for Profit (NFP) organisation, that delivers services to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples and their families, including ‘blended families’ living within the catchments of Wellington and East Gippsland Local Government Area’s.
We provide culturally safe and holistic services including counselling, clinical and therapeutic support, referral pathways, develop, implement, and deliver family violence education and prevention programs, advocacy and post-intervention support for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients and their families.
We support the recovery and healing of Aboriginal victims, individuals, families, and communities affected by family violence, and provide support to perpetrators of family violence, linking them to programs and services to address their behaviour and to help them build tools around respectful and healthy relationships with their partners, children, and extended family.
Our focus is on providing Aboriginal-led solutions, which are ‘trauma-informed,’ culturally safe, within holistic models of health and wellbeing.
About Our Roles
- The roles are located in the East Gippsland and Wellington Shire Council region – each Position Description specifies the location
- YWAHS has offices in Sale, Bairnsdale and Lakes Entrance and property in Nicholson – We service and support a wide geographic area from these offices including Orbost, Lake Tyers, Loch Sport, Yarram, etc.
- There is travel required with all our roles and a pool car is provided to support this

Qualification & Eligibility Requirements
- Qualifications and experience are specified within each position description
- All roles required candidates to have:
- Demonstrated knowledge and appreciation of Aboriginal culture and understanding of issues affecting Aboriginal people in a contemporary society
- Hold a valid driver’s licence
- Will be required to travel across YWAHS catchment area
- Have a current Working with Children Check clearance number prior to commencement in the role
- Are willing to obtain a National Police Check on Commencement (note YWAHS Discrimination Policy identifies that the organisation will not discriminate on irrelevant criminal history)

Aboriginal Team Leader

ROLE PURPOSE
The Aboriginal Team Leader position has been designed to provide cultural support and lead the Aboriginal Response Team to ensure that there is a high level of support to Aboriginal Children Women, and Men access the Outer Gippsland Orange Door Services.
The role will provide specialist practice support for Hub staff and manage a caseload of complex and sensitive
cases.

QUALIFICATIONS AND ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
- A minimum Bachelor level qualification in Social Work or recent employment in the family violence sector or equivalency

Essential knowledge and skills
- Demonstrated ability to identify, access and prioritise risks and needs of clients in whole of family approach.
- Experience in a leadership role.
- Demonstrated experience in working in the family violence sector or related areas, with an understanding of the issues underpinning family violence, particularly as it relates to an Aboriginal cultural context.
- Proven skills in assessing and counselling clients with complex needs, utilising MARAM Family Violence Risk Assessment
Framework, particularly in the areas of child and adolescent management, family violence, individual and family counselling and group work. - Demonstrated understanding of Aboriginal culture and the history of intergeneration trauma, with a theoretical understanding of the issues underpinning family violence and therapeutic interventions in an Aboriginal cultural context.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Aboriginal and mainstream family violence and community care organisations and referral
pathways and supports - Proven ability to work in a sensitive and non-judgmental manner, with clients who come from a variety of cultural and socioeconomic background
- Sound computer skills including use of email, internet, production of quality documents, and ability to maintain a database.
- Demonstrated excellent verbal communication, organisational and administrative skills.
- Demonstrated flexibility and willingness to work both independently and effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team
Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander heritage is required for this position.
Supported by YWAHS, the Aboriginal Team Leader will work within The Orange Door and will work across two offices – Sale and Bairnsdale, 3 days in one office and 2 days in the other office.
