About YWAHS
Yoowinna Wurnalung Aboriginal Healing Service (YWAHS) is a Specialist Aboriginal Family Violence Service, which is an independent Not for Profit (NFP) organisation, that delivers services to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples and their families, including ‘blended families’ living within the catchments of Wellington and East Gippsland Local Government Area’s.
We provide culturally safe and holistic services including counselling, clinical and therapeutic support, referral pathways, develop, implement, and deliver family violence education and prevention programs, advocacy and post-intervention support for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients and their families.
We support the recovery and healing of Aboriginal victims, individuals, families, and communities affected by family violence, and provide support to perpetrators of family violence, linking them to programs and services to address their behaviour and to help them build tools around respectful and healthy relationships with their partners, children, and extended family.
Our focus is on providing Aboriginal-led solutions, which are ‘trauma-informed,’ culturally safe, within holistic models of health and wellbeing.
About Our Roles
- The roles are located in the East Gippsland and Wellington Shire Council region – each Position Description specifies the location
- YWAHS has offices in Sale, Bairnsdale and Lakes Entrance and property in Nicholson – We service and support a wide geographic area from these offices including Orbost, Lake Tyers, Loch Sport, Yarram, etc.
- There is travel required with all our roles and a pool car is provided to support this

Qualification & Eligibility Requirements
- Qualifications and experience are specified within each position description
- All roles required candidates to have:
- Demonstrated knowledge and appreciation of Aboriginal culture and understanding of issues affecting Aboriginal people in a contemporary society
- Hold a valid driver’s licence
- Will be required to travel across YWAHS catchment area
- Have a current Working with Children Check clearance number prior to commencement in the role
- Are willing to obtain a National Police Check on Commencement (note YWAHS Discrimination Policy identifies that the organisation will not discriminate on irrelevant criminal history)

Mental Health Practitioner - 12 months

ROLE PURPOSE
The Mental Health Practitioner (MHP) possess strong communication and organisational skills, counselling skills and is committed to client focused service delivery to engage in a trauma informed and multi-disciplinary approach to healing and supporting individuals, families and community members affected by mental health issues.
The MHP will promote the social and emotional well-being of Aboriginal people by ensuring the programs and services are delivered from a culturally sensitive holistic perspective and in line with the National Strategic Framework for Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Peoples Mental Health and Well Being 2017-2023.
Utilising a cross sectoral approach, to respond to and provide culturally relevant early intervention services, based on an integrated and holistic stepped care model of mental health care.

QUALIFICATIONS AND ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
- A relevant qualification and/or equivalent certification from a nationally accredited provider in the area of social welfare, counselling, social work, family therapy, psychology, creative arts therapies, or community mental health nursing.
- A minimum Bachelor level qualification in Social Work or recent employment in the family violence sector or equivalency met through the 7 Equivalency Principles in line with the minimum mandatory qualification requirements. - Completion of or willingness to complete MARAM Comprehensive training.
- Completion of or willingness to complete FVISS/CISS training.

Prevention and Education Manager – 12 Month Position

ROLE PURPOSE
The P&E Manager is responsible for developing and implementing programs and activities that contribute to the broader social change that promotes healthy, respectful relationships and gender equality, and addresses all forms of family violence and discrimination, so that we can prevent and/or reduce family violence occurring in our communities.
The role is focussed on building the skills and capacity of YWAHS Education & Prevention team and support the Healing Service team to raise awareness and understanding of family violence in the Aboriginal communities across Wellington and East Gippsland LGAs.
This position involves managing all activities across YWAHS catchment area including, Sale, Bairnsdale, Lakes Entrance, Lake Tyers Aboriginal Trust, Orbost. The activities are designed as an entry point to engage services, through skills, knowledge and culturally based activities, forums, workshops, and other activities that enhance social connection, identity, cultural knowledge, health and well-being and family violence.
The P&E Manager is a member of the YWAHS Executive Management Team and actively contributes to the development of strategic and operational plans of YWAHS.

QUALIFICATIONS AND ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
- Qualifications in Community Development, Social Science, Social Work or related fields.
- Experience as a senior leader working as part of an executive team
- Demonstrated experience developing (contributing to) and implementing strategic and operational plans and managing projects and budgets
- Demonstrated understanding and experience working with State and Federal Government Frameworks and Strategies that contribute to the safety of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples, i.e., Dhelk Dja – Safe Our Way, Change the Story, Changing the Picture, Family Violence Primary Prevention, Free from violence, etc. or Community Development with a Cultural and
Therapeutic Practice experience. - Demonstrated experience developing and delivering/ facilitating group activities in a range of educational, practical, and therapeutic settings
- Experience of working cross-culturally, and a demonstrated understanding of cultural safety and its application in human service delivery

Position Overview
The Clinical Manager leads YWAHS’s clinical team in providing trauma-informed, culturally safe services within a holistic model of health and wellbeing. The position supports the recovery and healing of Aboriginal victims, individuals, families, and communities affected by family violence, while ensuring high-quality clinical governance and service delivery.

- Skills in complex client assessment and counselling
- Knowledge of Aboriginal and mainstream service systems
