About YWAHS

Yoowinna Wurnalung Aboriginal Healing Service (YWAHS) is a Specialist Aboriginal Family Violence Service, which is an independent Not for Profit (NFP) organisation, that delivers services to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples and their families, including ‘blended families’ living within the catchments of Wellington and East Gippsland Local Government Area’s.

We provide culturally safe and holistic services including counselling, clinical and therapeutic support, referral pathways, develop, implement, and deliver family violence education and prevention programs, advocacy and post-intervention support for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients and their families. 

We support the recovery and healing of Aboriginal victims, individuals, families, and communities affected by family violence, and provide support to perpetrators of family violence, linking them to programs and services to address their behaviour and to help them build tools around respectful and healthy relationships with their partners, children, and extended family.

Our focus is on providing Aboriginal-led solutions, which are ‘trauma-informed,’ culturally safe, within holistic models of health and wellbeing. 

About Our Roles

  • The roles are located in the East Gippsland and Wellington Shire Council region – each Position Description specifies the location
  • YWAHS has offices in Sale, Bairnsdale and Lakes Entrance and property in Nicholson – We service and support a wide geographic area from these offices including Orbost, Lake Tyers, Loch Sport, Yarram, etc.
  • There is travel required with all our roles and a pool car is provided to support this

Qualification & Eligibility Requirements

  • Qualifications and experience are specified within each position description
  • All roles required candidates to have:
    • Demonstrated knowledge and appreciation of Aboriginal culture and understanding of issues affecting Aboriginal people in a contemporary society
    • Hold a valid driver’s licence
    • Will be required to travel across YWAHS catchment area
    • Have a current Working with Children Check clearance number prior to commencement in the role
    • Are willing to obtain a National Police Check on Commencement (note YWAHS Discrimination Policy identifies that the organisation will not discriminate on irrelevant criminal history)

Aboriginal Practice Lead

This is an Aboriginal Identified position.

ROLE PURPOSE

The Aboriginal Practice Leader is a practice leadership position in each Support and Safety Hub (known as The Orange Door Network).

Auspiced by Yoowinna Wurnalung Aboriginal Healing Service, within The Orange Door Network, the Aboriginal Practice Leader will work in close partnership with the Hub Manager, Practice Leaders, the Aboriginal Hub Practitioner, and Team Leaders to
lead high quality, culturally safe and effective responses to Aboriginal people seeking support and safety through The Orange Door.

The Aboriginal Practice Leader will be responsible for providing practice leadership and expert advice to The Orange Door Network workforce on culturally safe and inclusive specialist family violence services, child and family services and perpetrator interventions.

The Aboriginal Practice Leader will provide secondary consultations to internal and external stakeholders and
proactively build cultural safety and competence in The Orange Door.

In addition, the Aboriginal Practice Leader will work with the Hub Manager and the Service System Navigator to build and
maintain effective partnerships with Aboriginal services and communities within The Orange Door Network to support choice for Aboriginal people.

QUALIFICATIONS AND ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

Selection Criteria
Essential:

  • A relevant qualification and/or equivalent certification from a nationally accredited provider in the
    area of social welfare, counselling, social work, family therapy, psychology, creative arts therapies,
    or community mental health nursing.
  • A minimum Bachelor level qualification in Social Work or recent employment in the family violence
    sector or equivalency met through the 7 Equivalency Principles in line with the minimum mandatory
    qualification requirements.

Prevention and Education Activities Worker - 1 Year Position

Primary Prevention is about stopping family violence before it starts by addressing the root causes.

Education & Prevention workers contribute to the broader awareness and understanding and social change that promotes healthy, respectful relationships and gender equality, and addresses all forms of family and discrimination so that we can prevent and/or reduce family violence occurring in our communities.

Connection to culture and self-determination are central to the work we do.

Essential:

  • Qualification in Community Services, Community Development, Youth Services or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Aboriginal culture and understanding of issues affecting Aboriginal people in a contemporary society.
  • Demonstrated experience running and facilitating group activities in a range of educational, practical and therapeutic settings.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the issues underpinning family violence particularly as it relates to the Aboriginal youth and young men’s cultural context.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the issues concerning confidentiality in a service provision organisation.
  • Knowledge of pathways and linkages to other support programs and services.

    Case Manager

    ROLE PURPOSE

    Based in Lakes Entrance, the Case Manager is committed to client focussed service delivery to engage in a trauma informed and multi-disciplinary approach to healing.

    They will work collaboratively with clients to develop individualised intervention plans, support plans and
    referrals.

    They will provide crisis intervention and support for clients who have experienced Family Violence, historic trauma or
    sexual assault.

    In performing this role, they will facilitate a holistic and integrated care approach through collaborative case
    management and interagency consultation.

    QUALIFICATIONS AND ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

    Selection Criteria
    Essential:

    • A relevant qualification and/or equivalent certification from a nationally accredited provider in the area of social welfare, counselling, social work, family therapy, psychology, creative arts therapies, or community mental health
      nursing or criminal justice system.
    • A minimum Bachelor level qualification in Social Work or recent employment in the family violence sector or equivalency met through the 7 Equivalency Principles in line with the minimum mandatory qualification requirements.
    • Demonstrated understanding of family violence, sexual assault/abuse, trauma-informed care, and practice
    • Demonstrated knowledge and experience of trauma informed care and practice and ability to work within a ‘strength
      based approach’.
    • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in working therapeutically with children, young people and adults who have
      experienced violence, abuse, and trauma.
